CPA Foundation
The Colorado Press Association Foundation was established in 1995. It provides newspaper internships each summer for high school and college students, high school newspaper advisers and college journalism faculty. Since 1996, the CPA Foundation Board has approved 68 college student internships, 51 high school student internships, 33 high school newspaper adviser internships and eight guest journalists.

Each college student intern receives a $2,500 stipend from the CPA Foundation. The money is sent to the student's financial aid office prior to the start of fall semester. In addition to the Foundation money, the host newspapers are responsible for providing housing and supplementing the stipend during the internship. Each high school student intern, guest journalist and high school newspaper adviser receives $500.

The deadline for college students and faculty to apply for internships is in November. The deadline for newspapers to nominate high school student interns is in March. The Colorado High School Press Association nominates newspaper advisers for internships.

Students and instructors gain first-hand experience and the internships strengthen their interest in newspapers. Newspapers participating in the internships range in size from 1,100 circulation weeklies to Denver dailies, and the majority of participants intern at community papers.

The CPA Foundation programs are made possible by two annual fund-raising activities:
• A yearlong campaign in which member newspapers contribute two cents per paid subscriber.
• Silent auction at the February convention. Newspapers and associate members donate items from their communities.
