About Us

Who we are...

The Colorado Press Association was founded in Denver on Aug. 7, 1878 as the State Press Association of Colorado. As stated in the bylaws:

"The objects of this association are to promote the general interests of daily and weekly newspapers, the improvement of their editorial and business methods and the advancement of their usefulness and influence in the public interest; to engage in and otherwise promote research in the newspaper publishing field and to make available to its members the results of such research; and to encourage constantly hiegher standards of ethics in the newspaper profession, thereby fostering the dissemination of information vital to the public welfare."

Membership in Colorado Press means a newspaper becomes part of two corporations: the nonprofit Association, which is financed primarily by Regular and Associate Member dues, and the Colorado Press Service, a for-profit corporation that handles all the sales projects.

The members elect a president, vice president/president-elect, secretary and treasurer, and six directors, who serve on the boards for both corporations. The immediate past president serves as chairman of the baords. Officers and directors take office at the annual meeting during the CPA February Convention.

In October 1995, the Colorado Press Assocation Foundation was established. Each year, it funds college scholarships, high school internships, high school newspaper adviser internships, and a unique guest publishership for people wanting to keep up with changes in the industry. Foundation programs are funded through a two-cent-per-subscriber campaign and donations to an endowment fund. The nine-member board, working through The Denver Foundation, determines funding allocations.

What we do...

Each year, Colorado Press Service Advertising Department places millions of dollars in display advertising in newspapers throughout Colorado, offering clients a cost-effective method of reaching more than 3.2 million newspaper readers in the state. The One Order-One Bill-One Check capability saves advertisers time and money. To find out more about these services and how they can help you, call (303) 571-5117 and ask for David Perkins, extension 18, or Brigette O'Driscoll at extension 19.

CO/SCAN Classified Network and 2X2 Display Network
Reach a lot of readers with little effort and for a reasonable price. Place just one ad and reach more than 500,000 readers at the same time. More than 110 regular member newspapers participate in the Colorado Statewide Classified Advertising Network. The 2x2 Display Ad Network involved 67 participating newspapers across Colorado. To find out more, call Shana Bachmeyer at (303) 571-5117 extension 24.

We scrutinize more than 300 editions of newspapers and periodicals each week to satisfy 325 clients who want to find out what the press is saying about them or about topics of interest. We fax or mail about 25,000 clippings each month to clients in Colorado and other states. CPS also mails press releases from businesses and organizations in a special weekly packet. For more information about either of these services, call Dan Cunningham at (303) 571-5117, extension 15.

About the Colorado Press Service

NEWSPAPER ADVERTISING PLACEMENT
Colorado Press Service is a newspaper advertising placement service sponsored by the newspaper industry. Our purpose is to make it easy for you to buy newspaper advertising.

Colorado Press Service has been placing newspaper advertising since 1945. We represent all newspapers in the state of Colorado and are also part of a nationwide newspaper association network enabling us to service the newsprint buying needs of advertisers across the country. Colorado Press Service, the advertising placement arm of the Colorado Press Association, was set up to make buying newsprint simple and easy for you, the advertiser.

The Colorado Press advertising placement service allows your organization the ability to tap into a powerful network of more than 250 newspapers in Colorado, reaching more than  80 percent of the state’s population. Our association with AdNet America, the national network of newspaper associations, also allows us to place advertising in any newspaper across the United States.

Working through the Colorado Press Service is easy and saves you time and money. Colorado Press removes the time-consuming, labor-intensive process of trying to reach numerous newspapers, ascertain mechanical dimensions and deadlines, set up placements, traffic ads and establish lines of credit. With our one call, one order, one bill service, you can place advertising across the state and throughout the country with just one phone call.

You can give us a list of newspapers or we can create a list based on your target market. We will provide you with a quote for your review. Upon your approval, we place the ad space reservations, traffic the ad materials, pay the participating newspapers, and send out your itemized invoice with tearsheets attached. One call, one order, one bill. It's that easy!

Call today for an advertising quote for any paper in Colorado or the U.S. 303-571-5117.
